"Charles II, himself a crypto-Catholic libertine, was reputedly appalled by James's folly in matters of religion and sex: 'My brother will lose his kingdom by his bigotry, and his soul for a lot of ugly trollops.'" John Mullan
This reminds me, I worked at a private country club summers when I was in college in the late '60s and early '70s. Some of the female members were quite friendly, and the stories they told me--after a drink or two--about members who were sleeping with other members (not their spouses) would give Lisa apoplexy! These were all married couples mind you, because at that time single people could not be members, though there were a few divorced males. I think people should be discreet, but somehow others always seem to find out.
