Uh oh

I've just had the second of two humbling experiences.

The first was a couple of years ago now. I grew up rebelling against Aquinas. I was firmly convinced that I disagreed with every word in Aquinas including, to steal a line from Mary McCarthy, "and" and "but".

Then I went to a site that asked me to answer a number of questions about moral beliefs and told me which moral philosopher I most closer resembled. Answer: Thomas Aquinas.

Well, today I surpassed even that. There is a site that analyzes your writing and tells you which famous writer your writing most resembles. Answer: Margaret Atwood.

All my close friends will now be on the floor laughing.

Want to try it yourself? You should but I warn you, the results may surprise you. The writing analysis site is here. The blog post I entered to be analyzed is here.

The moral philosopher quiz is here.

Is it true? Do I really agree with Aquinas and write like Atwood. The honest answer is yes and yes. It took me a long time to accept Aquinas fully and it's going to take a while to fully process teh Atwood thing but I already know it's true.

There is a lesson here about the things you think you are rejecting.

  1. LOL, I love your reference to Mary McCarthy's "and" and "the." I remember that show and how Cavett fell apart when she said it!

  2. I took the Moral Philosophy quiz. Sartre came in first with 100% followed by Kant with 99% then Mill at 90% and Ayn Rand (that was a surprise) at 88%. Aquinas came in 6th at 84% Augustine 12th with 64%.

  3. I did the writing analysis, said I write like Stephen King. Hmmmm.
