Reality based?

The article about the Pew study discussed below gets around to the differences between Democrats and Republicans:

"For those keeping political score, Democrats were almost twice as likely to believe in ghosts and to consult fortune-tellers than were Republicans, and the Democrats were 71 percent more likely to believe that they were in touch with the dead."

Charles M Blow is clearly embarrassed by this and it is to his credit that he lets that shame show. Still, there is another article begging to be written here. Any reporter with a modicum of curiosity would pursue this further. Are there other studies, other results that suggest Democrats are more superstitious than Republicans? (There are in fact, quite a few.) And what does this say about these peoples political beliefs?

The question doesn't get asked because it doesn't fit the narrative.
