A Sunday thought

You are sitting alone in your living room when suddenly everything goes dark, you hear a rushing wind and then there is column of light with an ethereal figure in it. The figure addresses you by name and clearly knows who you are and how you have lived your life.

As this figure goes on, it becomes clear that it claims to be a messenger from God. The messenger has a deal to offer you: if you are willing spend eternity separated from God then all the people you care about will be saved and admitted to heaven.

What is your response?

  1. Where do I sign?
  2. I'll have to think about that.
  3. To quietly wonder if this isn't some sort of test. If you say yes, will the messenger say, "Congratulations, because you were willing to make this sacrifice you are saved."
  4. To chicken out but be quite sure you will be consumed with guilt for the rest of your life.
  5. To say, God is a loving God and no loving being of any sort would ask this; therefore this "messenger" must actually be some sort of demon.
  6. To think, what was the point of Jesus dying on the cross? Didn't he already make a sufficient sacrifice? So, while there might be other reasons for me to make sacrifices, there is no need for me to make sacrifices to try and ensure anyone else's redemption? Or my own?
