Modern usually good, modernism usually bad

[Slight update]

That's all you really need to know to understand modern culture. Sometimes it really is that simple.

By the way, this is the 500th post since this blog began back in December 2009.



Update: That is a fib. I see that we only get to 500 here because the blogger software is counting a few unpublished posts in the total. Contrary to what I would have expected, my usual obsession with scrupulous accuracy on all factual issues is failing to kick in so this will remain the official 500th post even though it isn't the actual 500th post.

Update 2: In reasonable usage, "modernity" ought to mean social and cultural change brought on by modern capitalist economy and the many new technologies and other benefits it has produced. Looking around, however, I realize I underestimated the ability of a certain kind of intellectual fraud to subvert language to keep their tired old ideologies afloat.
