Euphemism watch

I was in Shoppers Drug Mart today. For the benefit of readers from other countries, Shoppers is Canada's largest pharmacy chain. By a huge margin. They have almost as many outlets as Starbucks.

Anyway, I'm looking at the signs that tell us what is in each aisle and I see a sign that says "feminine paper".

What image does that call to mind for you? I thought of nice box of writing paper, just off white with some roses in the corner and a lovely pink border.

"Feminine hygiene", probably the most common euphemism, isn't  much better. Isn't the most common hygiene product for women like, you know, soap?

Remember the old joke about the boy who goes into the pharmacy and shows up at the cash with a box of tampons? The clerk says, "Do you know what those are for little boy?" And he says, "Not really but the ad says you can use them to go swimming and horseback riding."
