The dead-fish style of female vocalist

That Susannah Breslin post I was talking about earlier has this video embedded:



I find that vocal style appealing and always have. It began with Astrud Gilberto and has been kept alive by everyone from Blondie's Deborah Harry to Susannah above.

But, like it as I do, it has to be acknowledged that a big part of the reason that these women sing the way they do is because they aren't good enough to do anything else. Compare the sincere version above with the tongue-in-cheek version below and you'll see what I mean.

That's real art, the other two are just cute.
