The Chronicle of Higher Education has a piece up about the anarchist roots of OWS. Here is a teaser:

The Chronicle piece adds some (ptretty speculative) detail about the genealogy. I'm not sure you can really be as precise as they try to be but it is pretty certain the protestors learned this stuff at university.
