Alice von Hildebrand

She's back with a long essay criticizing Christopher West. Actually, she says she is going to criticize West but almost everything she says bout him is favourable. What she doesn't like is sex and she wants us all to know just how evil it is.

As we have come to expect from Hildebrand, the essay as a whole is poorly organized but I think perhaps useful in that it sets out a number of individual arguments that are usually assumed rather than made when people defend what they take to be Christ's teaching on sexuality.

Christ, however, have very little to say about sexuality. The entire Judaic tradition has remarkably little to say about it. What little Christ does have to say on sexuality largely concerns the more public aspects of it; that is how sexual behaviour effects our relationships with other people and, most importantly, with God. He does not anywhere even so much as acknowledge that there are any important issues arising from what men and women do once they are in the marriage bed.

So how exactly does someone like Alice von Hildebrand get chapter and verse legality out of it? I'll be dealing with that in a series of posts over the next little while.

  1. The good news is that few people have ever heard of Alice or Dietrich, she has limited exposure and even less influence. Even my priest would laugh at this. Someone needs to tell her "Say good night Gracie."
