Haha, I wish. If only I had free time! I actually started reading In Search of Lost Time (or as my translation has it: Remembrance of Things Past) last September, and I'm still stuck at the end of book 2. I keep making notes to myself to "finish Proust" and never do it.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I read it I took long breaks, one of which lasted more than a year, between volumes. I think it reads best when read slowly. When reading Proust the thing happening right now is usually more important than the big picture. Take at least a year.
DeleteThere is also no reason to finish it if you don't want to. Lots and lots of people have read only parts and been none the worse for doing so.
