Today's lesson

Yesterday, I cooked salmon filets on a bed of salt and that is a really yummy way to cook salmon.

But that is not today's lesson.

Today, I washed two cast-iron frying pans which were sitting inside one another. I only washed the inside so when i stuck the smaller one on the gas burner, its underside was liberally coated with a mixture of salmon fat, salt and dishwater.

But that is not today's lesson.

Fat, salt and dishwater produce a really intense flame. Lots of light, lots of heat, lots of carbon. It was like setting a flare off in the kitchen. It was really something. As in yahoo, do it again*.

That is today's lesson.

Don't do this in your home.

* Disclosure: Some members of the household—okay every member of the household except me including the four-footed ones—were not positively impressed.

  1. Holy Shit! You're lucky you're not in a burn unit somewhere, I'd say God or the angels were watching over you. Yes, I do believe in those things.
