Another Pew study

These people just keep cranking out the fascinating stuff.

That said, would it be too much trouble for the NYT to find a reporter who actually cared enough about religion to like actually look into things. Who wouldn't write howlers like this:

"Twenty percent of Protestants and 28 percent of Catholics said they believe in reincarnation, which flies in the face of Christianity’s rapture scenario."

Yes, some Christians believe in "the rapture" and some Christians believe they can handle snakes or drink poisons too. But "the rapture" is not a general Christian belief. It's wacky superstition that a some rather nutty people have convinced themselves of. There are no shortage of wacky people out there but the rapture is just not an orthodox belief and anyone writing about religion in the NYT should know that.
